A 34-year-old woman was shot and seriously wounded during a robbery incident in Utawala area, Nairobi.

The victim was shot in the left thigh by a gang of two who were riding on a motorcycle after robbing her of her shopping which included fruits.

She told police she had arrived home on Thursday at about 11 pm. After alighting from a bus, she walked through a dark alley in Utawala Benedicta area along the Eastern Bypass and stopped to buy some fruits.

It was then that two men emerged while armed with a pistol and demanded all she had and her mobile phone, which they grabbed.

She suddenly screamed for help prompting one of the suspects to open fire and hit her in the right leg. The bullet exited below the knee as the woman was rushed to the hospital where she was admitted.

The assailants escaped on a motorcycle, police said.

The police visited the scene and recovered a spent cartridge.

Police said on Friday the hunt on the suspects was ongoing. The area has been experiencing a crime surge amid efforts to address the trend.

Police said they had deployed more patrol teams to pursue the gangs in the crime.

And police are looking for a gang that assaulted a guard in an attack outside the Kiambu National Polytechnic, Kiambu County.

The guard was found lying unconscious and taken to hospital where he remained in the ICU.

Police said they are investigating the incident and no arrest has been made so far.

The motive of the attack was not immediately known. Police suspect he was attacked after stopping a planned crime.

In Dadaab, Garissa County, a man lost his two teeth in an attack by his colleague. The two are refugees at the Ifo Refugee Camp and had fought before one of them lost two teeth.

The victim was attacked by a piece of wood and sustained serious head injuries, police said adding he was admitted in hospital as the search for the assailant goes on.
