A British national of Indian origin was found dead in his hotel room in the Parklands area, Nairobi. Police said Prakash Raojibhai Manbhai, his relatives and business partners had checked to the hotel on February 2 for a short holiday when the incident happened. He was found unresponsive in his room on Monday February 3 in the morning. Witnesses said after having breakfast at the hotel the deceased started complaining of chest pains whereby he was moved to his room to arrange for medication. Detectives are investigating an incident in which a gang of four raided a shop and robbed attendants of Sh150,000 in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area. The gang went to Anwara Foodstuffs Ltd situated within Ankara Apartment along Jam Street and staged the robbery on Monday February 3 evening. Workers were down loading wheat flour from a trailer, which had blocked the entrance of the shop when four men posing as customers came in and brandished a pistol. A group of trolley pushers in Nairobi have protested harassment by the county government and accused personnel there of selling confiscated ones to scrap metal dealers. This is after police traced and recovered 31 trolleys from a scrap metal dealer in Kariobangi. The trolleys had earlier been confiscated from the pushers by a group of County Government personnel in an operation. Police said the trolley handlers had complained the tools were confiscated from them on January 18 in the downtown area. The trolleys are popular in the area as they are used in transporting goods. A student with Kenya Methodist University was found dead after a suspected murder in Muthurwa area, Nairobi. Police said members of the public reported sighting a body along Muthurwa Road before a team visited the scene. It was established the deceased was Simon Njoroge Nyoro, 21 who was a student at the Kenya Methodist University. The body had a stab wound on the upper left chest, bruised knees, and bloody clothes. A 54-year-old woman was found dead after she had been clobbered by her husband in an altercation in Ayany, Nairobi. Police said the body of the Ugandan national Agnes Wetunga was found on the bed after the murder on Sunday February 2 night. Her husband told police they had a domestic quarrel that turned fatal. There are fears of clashes after multi-agency teams Monday launched a special security operation dubbed ‘Operation Ondoa Jangili’ to flush out hideouts used by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) within Marsabit and Isiolo counties. The alliance of rebel groups in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have declared a humanitarian ceasefire starting on Tuesday. In a statement, the group – which includes the Rwanda-backed M23 rebels – cited “humanitarian reasons” for the ceasefire, after it has been capturing territory in eastern parts of the country. A court rejected a bid by a Somali man to have his forged Kenyan identity card.  Abdirizak Mohamed Hassan is facing charges of obtaining Kenyan registration by false pretences. The prosecution told court that the said ID is a crucial document to their case and hence cannot be released to the accused at the moment. A joint summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East Africa Community (EAC) will be held on Friday February 7 and Saturday February 8 on the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has said the budget for development will be slashed to finance programmes that will be affected by the freeze on foreign aid. A member of the National Police Reserve was fatally shot in an attack by bandits in a village in Kapenguria, West Pokot County.
