The US has given $20bn (£15bn) to Ukraine, funded by the profits of seized Russian assets. The economic support forms a significant part of a $50bn (£39bn) package agreed by G7 member nations announced in June. A House Task Force investigating the assassination attempts against Donald Trump earlier this year has called on the Secret Service to reduce the number of people it protects and “review” its investigative role after “failures” almost led to tragedy.  The report identified a “litany” of failures before and during the 13 July shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a separate 15 September attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida. A Kibera High court handed a 30-year jail term to a man found guilty of killing his ex-wife. Amos Wanjala Mutelwa was handed the sentence after Prosecuting Counsel Peris Maina proved to the court beyond reasonable doubt that he murdered his 24-year-old ex-lover in 2018. In her ruling, Judge Diana Mochache observed the accused was not remorseful, had constantly denied committing the act, instead alleging that the deceased stabbed herself. A 26-year-old man was charged with murder over last week’s fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. Brazil’s 79-year-old President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva underwent surgery for a brain hemorrhage related to a recent fall, hospital officials said Tuesday. “The operation went without complications” on Monday night, and Lula was “doing well, under monitoring” in an intensive care unit, the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo said in a statement posted on the president’s Instagram account. At least seven students were injured and hospitalized early Tuesday December 10 morning after a fire broke out in Hall 5 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).  The incident occurred at around 3 am, forcing students to flee for safety, police and the university administration said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Students lost their valuables in the incident that took long to contain. A 20-year-old man drowned while bathing in a dam in Isinya, Kajiado County. The man identified as Ezekiel Lekipusi was taking a bath at the dam when slid and drowned on Sunday afternoon. Police are investigating the source of 20 bullets that were found abandoned at a parking yard in Umoja Two area, Nairobi. A ten-year-old boy who was playing at the yard spotted a carrier bag with wrapped items in it. He told police he checked and realized the contents were 20 live of 7.52 mm, which are used for rifles. At least 33 Ethiopians were separately arrested for being in the country illegally. They told police they were on transit to South Africa and the Middle East when they were intercepted in Kayole, Nairobi and Kwale County. Kenya police and their Haitian counterparts mounted operations in parts of Port-au-Prince as gang violence escalated at the weekend alone leaving close to 200 people dead. The team under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) said they recaptured a second police station in the area at the weekend.
