Teuvo comes from a hockey-oriented family and has two younger siblings: a brother named Eero Teräväinen and a sister named Satu Teräväinen.

His father works as a dentist.

Both siblings have pursued hockey at competitive levels.

Eero, born on March 8, 1999, in Helsinki, is a defenseman who has played in leagues such as HockeyAllsvenskan for Mora IK, the USHL, and Liiga teams including KooKoo and HIFK.

He also represented Finland at the 2017 IIHF World U18 Championships.

Satu, a retired professional player, competed as a left winger in the Naisten Liiga, most recently with Kiekko-Espoo during the 2019–20 season, and represented Finland at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World U18 Championship.

    Career

Teräväinen developed through the Jokerit youth system in Finland.

He made his SM-liiga (now Liiga) debut in the 2011–12 season at age 17, playing 40 games and earning the Jarmo Wasama Memorial Trophy as the league’s rookie of the year.

He continued to excel in subsequent seasons, serving as a top-line center and even acting as team captain at times.

He made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on March 25, 2014.

Teräväinen split time between Chicago and their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, in his early years.

His breakout came in the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, where he contributed significantly as a rookie.

After the 2015–16 season, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Bryan Bickell.

In Carolina, his offensive production flourished.

He set career highs, recorded his first NHL hat trick, and helped the team return to playoff contention, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2019.

Teräväinen played eight seasons with the Hurricanes before signing a three-year contract to return to the Blackhawks as a free agent in July 2024.

Individual honors include being named NHL First Star of the Week in November 2017 after a four-game stretch featuring a natural hat trick and 10 points.
