Investigations into the gruesome murder of a patient at the Kenyatta National Hospital Gilbert Kinyua took a new turn on Friday after the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health urged investigative agencies to consider his former bedmate as a person of interest in the murder case. An autopsy on the body of Kinyua showed he had a 3 centimeter deep cut in the throat. He also had blisters on his back indicating he had slept on it for long without attention. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed the acquittal of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu, popularly known as Babayao, in a money laundering case. The appeal comes a week after the Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court, on February 13, 2025, acquitted Waititu, a seasoned politician, of money laundering charges. The Nairobi County Government plans to enact a zoning policy that may allow buildings in the Central Business District (CBD), Upper Hill, and other key commercial areas to rise as high as 75 floors. Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Urban Planning, Patrick Analo said that the proposed policy aims to modernize the city while safeguarding residential neighbourhoods. Police authorities said they had mobilized and deployed dozens of anti-riot police ahead of a planned protest to call for the release of Uganda opposition leader Kizza Besigye. The anti-riot team was positioned at among others the Ugandan embassy, residence, ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Nairobi and outside State House. The former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati is dead. Chebukati died Thursday February 20 night after a long battle with cancer in the brain, a family spokesman said. He died at a hospital he had been admitted for weeks. He had been ill for long and had sought medical attention in Kenya and abroad. He was last week admitted to a hospital in the city in a critical condition. He had two head surgeries to remove a tumor.

Three buses exploded in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, in what Israeli police say is a suspected terror attack. Devices in two other buses failed to explode, they said, adding that “large police forces are at the scenes, searching for suspects”. Police have recovered a loaded AK47 riffle that was robbed from a police officer in Kaptembwo, Nakuru County.  The weapon was recovered Wednesday February 19 from a lodging in Huruma estate, Eldoret. This was two days after the incident. A suspect was arrested before he led detectives to the scene. The weapon was taken to custody as the hunt for more suspects goes on.
