An activist claims his life is in danger after he shot and injured an intruder into his home in Syokimau, Machakos County. Bukas Omole said he was asleep on Saturday night when he heard a commotion in his house. He woke up and noticed eight men had intruded into the house and some were outside. Tanzanian activist and media practitioner Maria Sarungi Tsehai Monday recounted the terrifying details of her abduction in Nairobi’s Kilimani neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.  Sarungi known for her criticism of the Tanzanian government, was apprehended by three armed and hooded men before being released later that evening after public pressure and intervention by human rights organisations. Second-hand car marketer Joseph Kairu Wambui, also known as Khalif Kairo, was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday on charges of defrauding two clients out of Sh2.1 million and Sh2.9 million, respectively. Kairo is accused of deceiving Jeff Kyule Munane between July 10 and July 29, 2024, in Westlands, Nairobi. An employee of a dairy farm was hacked to death in an attack at his home in Mukurweini, Nyeri County. Police said the incident happened Sunday morning at about 2 am in Ikuma village and involved one Simon Muchiri, 45. Muchiri was an employee of Mukurweini Wakulima Dairy Limited. Police shot and killed a suspect and recovered a pistol they said was used in a murder incident in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area. The suspect was killed Sunday January 12 in Njiru area following a confrontation with police. Police later said they recovered a mini Czeska that was used in a fatal shooting incident in Eastleigh area, Nairobi last year in November. Police said the pistol had five bullets when it was recovered from the slain suspect. Thousands have fled a town in southern Sudan since clashes erupted last week between the Sudanese army and rival paramilitaries, the United Nations’ migration agency said Sunday. Tanzanian activist Maria Sarungi Tsehai was released hours after her abduction.  The Law Society of Kenya announced her release in a post on X. The Kenyan government has unveiled a Sh28 billion modernisation program to enhance the operational efficiency and welfare of the National Police Service (NPS).  Much of the plans to modernize the service are contained in a report by a task force that analyzed what is needed.
