A team to recruit the new members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) was sworn into office with a call for integrity in the process. The commission chairman is also being sought. Their recruitment may take up to two months after which a recruitment drive for police will be announced. Two suspects were arrested after a villager was stoned to death in Olontoto village, Narok County. The victim was accused of stealing a rooster in the area before he was confronted and killed in the Sunday evening drama. Police said Simon Kasaine, 39 was killed by a mob after he had been accused of stealing a rooster from a home. The owner of the rooster told police the deceased confronted him attempting to harm him when he found him with the chicken. This prompted him to raise an alarm, which attracted locals. Anti-terrorism police in Mandera East arrested two suspected al Shabaab operatives, who had planned the abduction of a team of foreign nationals working at a sewer line construction site within Mandera township. Acting on intelligence, the ever-agile sleuths swiftly arrested the prime suspect, Isaac Abdi Mohamed alias Kharan Abdi Hassan, 29, who had recently sneaked his way into the country from El-ade in Somalia and forged several documents to identify as a Kenyan. Detectives in Namanga arrested four robbery suspects who invaded the home of an elderly Korean couple at Elmarba within Oloililai, Kajiado County, subjecting them to hours of anguish before making away with valuables. The incident happened on February 10, 2025 The suspects were arrested in Mlolongo in Machakos County and Mukuru Kwa Reuben in the city almost 100 kilometers away from where the crime happened. A brother to the late Malava Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi is dead. Samuel Injendi died a day before his younger brother passed on in Nairobi. Malulu died on Monday at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. Samuel died while undergoing treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital on February 16. It’s now double tragedy for their kin who are coming to terms with burying two of their sons. One child and two adults were critically injured after a plane crashed and overturned while landing at Toronto Pearson airport in Canada, according to emergency services. Images shared on social media show a plane which appears to have flipped over and is lying on its roof on the snow-covered tarmac. It appears to be missing at least one of its wings. Toronto Pearson airport said the crash involved a Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis, and that “all passengers and crew are accounted for”. Meta has announced plans to build a 50,000km (31,000 mile) sub-sea cable across the world.  The tech giant said Project Waterworth – connecting the US, India, South Africa, Brazil and other regions – will be the world’s longest underwater cable project when completed. The director of Kenya Union of Savings and credit Cooperatives limited (KUSCCO) who was wanted in Sh82 million union theft presented himself before a Nairobi court for plea taking.  George Otieno Ototo had been summoned by the court over the issue. A section of residents of Standard Media Group Sacco in Mavoko Sub-County have petitioned the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe some documents emanating from the Machakos County lands office.  They argued the documents have been used to fuel a dispute over a controversial access road pitting them with their neighbours at Arusha Court. South Korea has banned new downloads of China’s DeepSeek artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, according to the country’s personal data protection watchdog. The government agency said the AI model will become available again to South Korean users when “improvements and remedies” are made to ensure it complies with the country’s personal data protection laws. Ugandan opposition politician Kizza Besigye, who went on a hunger strike last week was rushed to hospital after his health deteriorated.  The 68-year-old was rushed to a private medical facility in a prison ambulance as health was deteriorating, his lawyer Erias Lukwago wrote earlier on Facebook. A long-time political opponent and critic of President Yoweri Museveni, Besigye has been in detention at a maximum security facility in the capital Kampala since November. The US State Department has dropped a statement from its website which stated that Washington does not support Taiwan’s independence – a move which has sparked anger in China.  China said the revision “sends a wrong… signal to separatist forces advocating for Taiwan independence”, and asked the US to “correct its mistakes”. The department’s fact sheet on Taiwan-US relations earlier included the phrase “we do not support Taiwan independence” – this was removed last week as part of what it said was a “routine” update. Electricity consumption hit a new record high with a peak demand of 2,316 MW recorded on Wednesday, February 12 2025. This demand is 12 MW higher than the previous peak of 2,304 MW recorded on 15 January 15, 2025. Statistics from Kenya Power’s National Control Centre show that peak electricity demand hos been steadily growing over the last three years with the growth rate gaining momentum in 2024. Electricity demand exceeded the 2,000 MW threshold towards the end of 2021 and peaked above 2,100 MW in 2022 but remained steadily below 2,200 MW in 2023 before regaining momentum in June…
