A team of detectives drawn from DCI headquarters arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a yet to be identified middle-aged woman on December 25, 2024 in Nakuru.  The suspect identified as Benard Ngugi Mbau had run into hiding in Nyandarua after committing the heinous murder. Tens of pilgrims trooped to Mt Kenya for annual peace prayers.  The prayers focused on rising abductions and other national challenges. The group, mostly from the region, convened at Samson Corner along Mwea Embu road in Kirinyaga county and started the journey at around 7am, with the annual prayers to seek divine intervention for the country. More than 1,500 prisoners have escaped from a prison in Mozambique, taking advantage of ongoing political unrest triggered by disputed election results, police say. Thirty-three people were killed and 15 injured in clashes with guards, police chief Bernardino Rafael told a press conference. About 150 more fugitives have since been recaptured, he added. The wife of detained Ugandan opposition politician Kizza Besigye has denounced as “cruel and inhumane” a ban on prisoners receiving visitors on Christmas Day.  Besigye, 68, has been charged in a military court with possession of pistols and attempting to purchase weapons abroad, which he denies. Dozens of people have died after a passenger plane crashed with 67 people on board in Kazakhstan, local officials say. The country’s emergency ministry said there were 25 survivors. The plane, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, caught fire as it went down near the city of Aktau. The cause of the crash is not know.
