Members of Parliament have questioned millions spent on renovations during former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s tenure. The National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security has expressed concern about the high costs incurred in renovating the Harambee Annex office, Karen residence and Mombasa office. Legislators noted that the Harambee Annex, constructed at a cost of Sh600 million, now requires Sh560 million in additional renovations. Another tragic incident has struck the medical fraternity just two months after the untimely death of Dr Desree Moraa Obwogi, a medical intern at Gatundu County Referral Hospital. Dr Francis Njeru, a pharmacy intern at Thika Level 5 Hospital, has reportedly died by suicide. Three police officers are nursing wounds in hospital after they were sprayed with a chemical at a private clinic in Ngara area, Nairobi. The officers had visited Ngara Medical Centre while investigating a case of stolen medical drugs. While at the facility on Monday November 25 evening, a confrontation broke out between the officers and some staff there. Police say the three were sprayed with a chemical believed to be chemical acid and left with serious burns. They claimed the attackers included the proprietor of the facility. Nakuru businessman Elias Mutugi Njeru was Monday arraigned in a Molo court for stabbing his partner 18 times.  He was released on cash bail of Sh200,000 or the alternative of a Sh500,000 bond. Njeru, the main suspect in the attempted murder of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Daisy Mose at the Molo Law Courts and pleaded not guilty to the charge on Monday. A new United Nations report reveals a grim reality: at least 140 women and girls worldwide lose their lives daily at the hands of someone they know, often a partner or close family member.
